Cosmetic dentistry by Dr. Lattinelli is any procedure which improves the look of your teeth and mouth. Many cosmetic procedures are done at the request of the patient, but some cosmetic procedures are also used to restore a normal look after injury or other reasons.
There are five main cosmetic procedures performed by Dr. Lattinelli:
Inlays and Onlays
Inlays and onlays are made from composite resins and are used to restore the look of decayed or damaged teeth. They are slightly different in how they are used. An inlay is used if the tooth has some damage but the tooth cusps are intact. The inlay is created in the laboratory, then bonded to the tooth with cement after the tooth surface is prepared and any decay is removed. If the damage is more severe, an onlay can be used to cover the entire tooth surface.
Composite bonding is a procedure where a composite material similar to putty is applied directly to a damaged tooth after any decay or loose tooth material is removed and the tooth surface is etched with a mild solution to improve the bond. The bonding material is applied after color is added so it matches the rest of the tooth. Dr. Lattinelli uses tools to create a tooth profile matching the missing tooth. The material is then cured with ultraviolet light. The procedure can normally be completed in a single visit. The result is a tooth which looks like the original. This is a very effective procedure to improve the look of chipped, cracked, or worn teeth as well.
Dental veneers are typically ceramic and made to cover the front of individual teeth. They are an effective way to hide large cracks between teeth, discolored teeth, or almost any other damage on the front of a tooth. They are applied with a dental adhesive and normally will not require any anesthetic.
Whitening or bleaching of teeth is an excellent cosmetic procedure to brighten teeth. The best time to whiten is after the teeth have been cleaned and any plaque and tartar are removed. Teeth Whitening can even make teeth lighter than their original color to some extent. Whitening can reduce or eliminate stains from food, drinks, medications which discolor the teeth, or smoking.
Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth. First Dr. Lattinelli will prepare the site by placing a titanium screw into the bone below the missing tooth area. This acts as a support for the replacement tooth known as a crown. A crown is created in the laboratory and on a second visit is permanently attached to the screw. Once the bone regrows around the screw the tooth will be just as strong as normal teeth.
